Research:

Dr. Hong's primary research interest is in the area of bioseparation processes. These include membrane, chromatographic, and supercritical fluid separation. He also is interested in bioreactor optimization for biopolymer production, and in the process of protein crystallization.
Dr. Hong has recently published a number of articles concerning the dynamic extraction of essential oil components from spearmint leaves using supercritical carbon dioxide; electrokinetic separation of amino acids using polypyrrole-coated adsorbents; electrokinetic separation of lysine and aspartic acid using a polypyrrole-coated stacked membrane system; the chemical synthesis and characterization of polypyrrole coated on porous membranes; and the isomerization to fructose by immobilized glucose isomerase.
