Voloshina Honored for Empowering Women

Sasha Voloshina is recognized for fostering an inclusive culture and empowering women.

March 12, 2024 - In celebration of Women’s History Month, Women in Tech @ UCI has highlighted Sasha Voloshina, assistant professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering, as one of seven recipients recognized through its Applause Program.

The Applause Program celebrates women and allies in technology across the UC Irvine campus who embody their motto “Advance. Inspire. Empower. Act.” People are nominated by peers and colleagues for their impact and accomplishments in fostering an inclusive culture at UCI through their words, values, actions and attitudes.

Voloshina was recognized for working toward creating environments where diverse people are celebrated and prioritized. She was cited for “empowering women in technology through all aspects of her work.” Through her research, she creates products that empower people with disabilities to regain their abilities to walk; and through teaching, she empowers students to pursue projects and work that support those with disabilities and other non-normative characteristics. She is noted as “an incredible mentor to all students as she demonstrates how to prioritize diversity in research and teaching, leading to changing the environment in which we all work and learn.”
