Research:

Professor Shapiro's research interests are in environmentally sustainable manufacturing of electronics, the electronic properties of materials, and in electronic packaging materials, processes, and characterization. He is also pursuing research in electronic materials for extreme environments (including planetary and deep space environments) and in integrated passive devices.

Professor Shapiro is collaborating with Professors Ogunseitan, Saphores and Schoenung on environmentally sustainable manufacturing including Pb-free assembly and beyond http://www.industrial-ecology.uci.edu/. He has been an instructor for Microelectronic and Environmentally Sustainable Manufacturing, Materials Processing, Photonic Materials and Technology, Electron Microscopy, Advanced Concepts in Materials, Electronic Properties of Materials, and Characterization of Materials.

Professor Shapiro also is a consultant for several photonic, electronic, materials, components and testing companies. As a consultant, he performs failure analysis for materials; recommends materials for electronic and photonic components, packaging and subsystems manufacturing; analyses high frequency (x-band) materials properties; and designs and selects components for multilayer low temperature cofired ceramic and ferrite materials.
