The Henry Samueli School of Engineering at the University of California , Irvine is one of the nation’s fastest growing engineering schools, attracting talented engineering faculty and students from across the nation and abroad.  The school is comprised of five departments: biomedical engineering, chemical engineering and materials science, civil and environmental engineering, electrical engineering and computer science, and mechanical and aerospace engineering.

Materials Science And Engineering 
Interdisciplinary Concentration 

Welcome to the Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) graduate concentration at The Henry Samueli School of Engineering. This is a school-wide graduate concentration, which leads to an M.S. degree or Ph.D. degree in Engineering with a concentration in Materials Science and Engineering. It also offers part-time study for an M.S. degree. Currently, there are 26 faculty members from five departments (CEE, BME, ChEMS, EECS, and MAE) who participate in this program, and it is interdisciplinary in nature. Each student will have a home department that is also their advisor’s department.

Graduate Financial Support

Named Fellowships

Henry Samueli Endowed Fellowship - One of the premier awards offered to incoming graduate students in the school. This award is funded by Henry Samueli, co-founder of Broadcom Corporation, after whom the school is named. Fourteen fellowships have been awarded at $25,000 each. The award is open to both terminal MS and Ph.D. students. It is a competitive award, rather than need based, and it is open to all graduate majors within the school. Applicants who would like to be considered for the Samueli Fellowship should indicate their interest in the application for admission. No separate application materials are required.
