The Henry Samueli School of Engineering Undergraduate Research Fellowship Program

Program description:

The Henry Samueli School of Engineering Undergraduate Research Fellowship provides funding for exceptionally promising junior or senior engineering students who wish to participate in a quarter of advanced research with a faculty mentor. The program offers students the opportunity to become immersed in a research topic for a half-time, ten-week period, or the equivalent of 196 hours. The Samueli School will provide matching funds up to $1,500 (for a total of $3,000) to support faculty-sponsored research.  School funds go directly to the student.  However, matching funds can be used to support student research, pay lab fees, or go directly to the student.

Tutoring Schedule and Study Center

Study Center

The CODE Study Center is the home of the Peer Tutoring Program and the CODE Computer Lab. It is located in 124 ECT. The Study Center is used for group study sessions, quiet studying, as well as a meeting place for many of the CODE clubs. The Study Center is conveniently located adjacent to one of the School's computer labs.

Undergraduate Major in Chemical Engineering

Chemical Engineering uses knowledge of chemistry, mathematics, physics, biology, and humanities to solve societal problems in areas such as energy, health, the environment, food, clothing, shelter, and materials and serves a variety of processing industries whose vast array of products include chemicals, petroleum products, plastics, pharmaceuticals, foods, textiles, fuels, consumer products, and electronic and cryogenic materials. Chemical engineers also serve society in improving the environment by reducing and eliminating pollution.

Workshops

We recognize that we cannot use a "one size fits all" approach to student programming. CODE targets workshops and activities to the specific academic level of the student.

Research

Doing research as an undergraduate can open many doors. Whether you are thinking about going immediately into a graduate program or applying for a job in industry, the skills you develop in a research lab can boost your academic credentials. UCI is set apart from other research universities not just by our commitment to undergraduate research but also by the wealth of opportunities available to undergraduate students.

Student Organizations

In addition to the support provided by CODE, student organizations can provide academic support, professional development, social outlets, and opportunities for community service. There are currently 5 student organizations that fall under the CODE umbrella. These groups are linked with larger, national organizations so they also provide an opportunity for UCI students to meet with their peers and industry representatives at national and regional conferences.

Student Participation and Organizations

Faculty and committee meetings (except those involving personnel considerations) are open meetings; in addition to designated student representatives, all students are encouraged and expected to participate in the development of School policy. Student evaluation of the quality of instruction for each course is requested each quarter.

Center for Opportunities and Diversity in Engineering (CODE) Program

The Center for Opportunities and Diversity in Engineering (CODE) is charge with promoting and facilitating diversity within The Henry Samueli School of Engineering. CODE works to achieve this goal by providing academic, professional and social support for our students. In addition, CODE strives to create a community where students feel comfortable discussing both the challenges and successes they experience while at UCI.

Some of the services provided by CODE include:

New Undergraduate Students

Academic Advising

Academic advising takes place over the summer months, and is the first place to receive information for newly admitted students. During the acadmeic advising sessions, students will discover details about The Henry Samueli School of Engineering and prepare themselves to start classes in the fall. All engineering students must attend at least one academic advising session (either during a Student Parent Orientation Program [SPOP] or an Engineering Academic Advising Session) before starting in fall. Failure to attend will result in removal or loss of enrollment in classes.

Merit Based Scholarships

Below is a list of merit-based scholarships available for undergraduate students.
