Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering - Postdoctoral Scholar/Assistant Specialist

The University of California, Irvine invites applicants for a postdoctoral scholar/assistant specialist position in the area of energy. The project is related to PEM fuel cell and electrodes (modeling and experiment). No deep knowledge in PEM fuel cell and electrode nano materials is required. However, a strong technical background in fuel cell/electrode/MEA modeling, fabrication, and electrochemistry is necessary. The responsibilities include: conduct project research, help PI supervise students, write papers, and help PI prepare proposals.

Qualifications: Candidates are required to have:

• Ph.D. in engineering, usually material, chemical or mechanical engineering with a specialty in fuel cells or electrodes
• Strong background in electrochemistry and fuel cell experiment or simulation (MD, Lattice Boltzmann or KMC…)
• Excellent communication skills, ability to learn quickly and enthusiastically
• Preference given to candidates with some experience in PEM fuel cell/electrode fabrication/modeling

Salary and Benefits: Salary is commensurate with experience, and includes all standard benefits for the University of California employees (health and dental insurance for the candidate and family). The salary range is $35,500 to $44,400 per annum. The appointment may start as soon as October 1, 2009, for 3-4 years term. The appointment is renewed by year and may be terminated depending on the extramural funding condition.
