Electrical Engineering and Computer Science – Postdoctoral Scholar Position
Multiple Antenna Signal Processing for Geo-Positioning Systems
Salary: $40,584.00-$45,024.00 / year
Starting Date: October 1, 2009, or until filled
The Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Department at the University of California, Irvine invites applications for a postdoctoral scholar in the area of multiple antenna signal processing for geo-positioning systems. The successful applicant will conduct research in the application of signal processing techniques such as beamforming, space-time coding, equalization, direction-finding, time-delay estimation, etc., to improve the accuracy, robustness and coverage of geo-positioning systems such as GPS. We are interested in techniques that are suitable for overlay onto existing systems, as well as approaches that are suitable for next-generation systems.
Applicants should have a Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, and should have extensive research experience in source localization problems involving antenna arrays. It is also desirable that the applicant have a strong background in wireless communications topics such as CDMA receivers, multiple antenna transmit and receive diversity, space-time coding, and equalization. Familiarity with the basics of guidance and navigation (e.g., inertial and fixed-body coordinate systems, GPS systems, Kalman filters, aircraft dynamics, etc.) is a plus. The successful applicant will be expected to conduct individual research projects in the areas mentioned above, and also help supervise the work of one or two graduate students working on related problems.
The initial appointment will be for a one-year period, with the possibility of an extension depending on performance and the availability of funding.
Application Deadline: open until filled. Applications received by 8/21/09 will be guaranteed consideration.
Please send your curriculum vitae, a list of publications, and names of at least three references to:
Prof. Lee Swindlehurst
Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science
325 Engineering Tower
University of California, Irvine
Irvine, CA 92696-2625
Alternatively, materials can be submitted electronically in PDF format to Prof. Swindlehurst via e-mail: swindle@uci.edu.
