The Department of Biomedical Engineering in The Henry Samueli School of Engineering at the University of California, Irvine invites applications for one or more positions as a postdoctoral scholar employee in the general areas of pulmonary tissue remodeling (with particular interest in epithelial-mesenchymal interactions), and pulmonary gas exchange.  The projects are funded by grants from the National Institutes of Health aimed at understanding how chemical and mechanical perturbations to the bronchial epithelium can influence airway remodeling, and how nitric oxide in the exhaled breath may assist in the clinical management of asthma.

The initial appointment will be full-time, for a 12 month period.  The salary range is $35,500 - $45,024 per year, and will be commensurate with experience.  Renewal of the contract will be contingent upon the availability of adequate funding and performance.

A strong background in biological techniques and assays (e.g., gene and protein expression), primary mammalian cell culture, pulmonary mechanics, gas exchange, or modeling physiological systems is required.  The position requires a Ph.D. in biology, biomedical engineering, or a related field, as well as good communication and writing skills.

Applicants should send a curriculum vitae and name/addresses of at least two references to:
