Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering - Project Scientist Position

Salary:  $4,000-6,000 /per month

The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of California, Irvine, invites applications for a project scientist position in the area of Inertial Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS). The successful applicant will be involved in development of the text generation solid-state MEMS gyroscopes. The candidate's responsibilities will include the design, modeling, fabrication, vacuum packaging and testing of inertial instruments; installation, operation, and maintenance of laboratory instruments; digital/analog circuit design, layout, and testing; data collection, analysis, and reporting; regular interaction with sponsors, documentation of results and submission  of progress report material required by contract with sponsors; providing technical assistance/supervision to students and visitors.       

Qualifications: 
Candidates are required to have:
  • Ph.D. in Engineering, preferably in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent years of experience in the field
  • Excellence in written and oral expression with the English language
  • A record of research documented by U.S./international patents, publications in premier journals and international conferences
  • Preference given to candidates with experience in MEMS Vibratory Gyroscopes
Salary and Benefits:  Salary is commensurate with experience, and includes all standard benefits for the University of California employees (health and dental insurance for the candidate and family).  Positions are dependent on extramural funding and research contracts of individual Principal Investigators. 

Start date as early as July 1, 2009.  Renewal of the appointment will be contingent upon the availability of adequate funding and performance.
