In Memoriam

Nov. 25, 2015 - Harut Barsamian, a world renowned engineer and Samueli School adjunct professor, passed away Friday, Nov. 20, at age 83.

Barsamian, a Life Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), taught graduate-level electrical engineering and computer science at UCI for 27 years. “Barsamian made outstanding contributions to computer architecture, dynamic microprogramming and associative search algorithms,” said Samueli School Dean Gregory Washington in an email to faculty and staff. “At UCI, he brought a valuable combination of theory and practical experience, with an intimate knowledge of cutting-edge technology.”

UC Irvine’s Harut Barsamian Colloquia Room was renamed in 2012 to honor the long-time teacher's dedication and contributions to the university.

During his long and distinguished engineering career, Barsamian also worked at Raytheon, NCR and Sperry Univac.

Funeral/burial services will take place at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 2, at Church of the Recessional, Forest Lawn, in Glendale, Calif.
