ESC Holds First Fall EngiTECH

The EngiTECH career fair helps connect students to industry for internship and job opportunitiesNov. 2, 2015 - Ten companies came out for the Engineering Student Council’s first Fall EngiTECH career fair held on Gateway Plaza in late October. About 200 students attended the networking event, which helps connect undergraduates and graduates to industry for internship and job openings.

ESC will continue to hold the traditional EngiTECH in February during E-Week, but in response to industry feedback, the council created the fall event to promote more opportunity earlier in the year. “We found that most companies are hiring employees and interns in the fall,” said Edwin Abrahamian, a third-year MAE student and ESC corporate affairs committee co-director.

Karla Marron came to the event armed with a list of 10 Northrop Grumman job postings, which she had questions about and wanted clarification. A senior in mechanical and aerospace engineering, Marron is graduating in the spring and would like to work in vehicle engineering or flight testing at Northrop. “I’ve talked with the recruiters before, but I wanted to follow up. It’s important to make an impression. They were pretty helpful.”

It was the first time that cloud-based business and operations planning software company Anaplan participated in EngiTECH. “It was kind of nice to be at a smaller event, instead of sitting next to Google and Oracle in a big venue,” said Anaplan recruiter Kenny Roberts. “We’ve definitely seen some interested candidates and have been able to have some genuine conversations with students.”

Broadcom Corp. was represented, both with recruiters and the senior manager in software engineering, Jorge Wong. “I’m here to answer any technical questions students might have,” he explained. “We always hire interns from UCI; many end up as employees.”
