Biomedical Engineering Graduate Students Receive Best Poster Awards

Two engineering graduate students, Anne Taylor and Craig Griffith, received best poster awards at the 2004 UC System-wide Bioengineering Symposium, held in June. Over 60 posters from nine UC campuses were evaluated based upon clarity of presentation and potential impact in the field.

Anne Taylor's advisor is Noo Li Jeon, Assistant Professor of Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Materials Science, and the Integrated Nanosystems Research Facility. Taylor's winning poster was on "Polarization of CNS Neurons and Isolation of Axons Using a Microfluidic Culture Device."

Craig Griffith's co-advisors are Steve George, William J. Link Professor and Chair, Biomedical Engineering and Professor, Chemical Engineering and Materials Science and Noo Li Jeon. Griffith's winning poster explored "Diffusion Limits of a Thick Prevascularized Tissue."

The 2004 UC System-wide Bioengineering Symposium was hosted by the Department of Biomedical Engineering in The Henry Samueli School of Engineering at the University of California, Irvine. This was the fifth such symposium focusing on bringing faculty, students and post-graduate researchers from all of the UC campuses together with members of the private sector who are interested in bioengineering research.
